Welcome to Mangrove: A New Wave of Eclectic Jamaican Cuisine in Downtown Miami

Mangrove, Downtown Miami’s latest addition to its eclectic restaurant and nightlife scene, is set to open its doors on Thursday, February 15. This new Jamaican concept promises an exhilarating fusion of exceptional cuisine and curated vinyl music selections, all within an immersive, detail-rich environment.

Culinary Delights Rooted in Tradition

Packed with authenticity, seasoned with Chef Wayne Sharpe's family traditions, and made fresh with local ingredients, Mangrove’s menu honors classic Caribbean flavors with Jamaican staples. From the same team behind Jrk! in Aventura and Downtown, Mangrove aims to redefine the casual fine dining experience. Unlike its fast-casual predecessor, Mangrove exudes tropical speakeasy vibes, offering an elevated, authentic Jamaican and Caribbean-inspired fare.

Chef Wayne Sharpe, a Kingston native and co-founder, shares, “Mangrove is a testament to our love for Caribbean culture. We've curated a space where every dish, every note, and every moment transports you to the heart of Jamaica.”

A Unique Dining and Lounge Experience

Mangrove positions itself as a bar, restaurant, and lounge with a mission to create a community-driven space. During the day, guests can enjoy their meals in a cozy, intimate setting, while by night, the lounge transforms into a vibrant nightlife venue. The varied seating arrangements range from bar stools to leather banquettes, mixing modern and vintage barware to create a space where history meets the present.

As Max Pierre, Mangrove’s managing partner, explains, “This project is about breaking down barriers and uniting people through food, music, and culture.”

Exquisite Menu and Beverage Selections

Mangrove’s dinner menu includes delightful appetizers like jerk skewers and mains such as ginger rosemary snapper and a signature fried chicken sandwich. The full liquor bar features island-inspired cocktails like the Red Red Wine, made with white rum, house-made sorrel, ginger, and fresh lime juice, and the Hotstepper, a vibrant tropical drink made with passionfruit.

A Space Filled with Culture and Art

Tucked behind Jrk! in Downtown, Mangrove’s intimate, dimly lit space is adorned with vintage details like channeled leather banquettes, caned Cesca chairs, greenery spilling over the bar, and a yellow-tiled DJ booth lined with vinyl records. Paintings by local artists fill the walls, highlighting the owners’ goal of fostering a community-driven atmosphere.

Special Events and Hours

Every Wednesday, Mangrove hosts a lively reggae night that kicks off with happy hours from 5 to 8pm. The restaurant is open for dinner from Thursday to Sunday, 6 to 10pm, while the bar and lounge welcome guests on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 6pm to 1am, and Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 3am.
