In Overtown, the residential phase of Sawyer’s Walk (formerly Block 55) has officially opened. Developer SG Holdings, a partnership between Swerdlow Group, SJM Partners, and Alben Duffie, announced the milestone this morning.
“We’re pleased to announce the highly anticipated opening of nearly 600 residences at Sawyer’s Walk, a tremendous milestone for the city that will help meet the need for quality housing for low-income seniors in our community,” said Michael Swerdlow, Managing Partner of SG Holdings.
The apartments are part of a 1.5 million-square-foot mixed-use development, Sawyer’s Walk, which is opening in phases. A total of 578 units will be rented to limited-income seniors, primarily serving minority seniors.
The amenities surpass traditional affordable housing offerings, including a rooftop swimming pool and sun deck, outdoor seating and grilling stations, a fitness center, clubhouse, and entertainment center.
The retail component of Sawyer’s Walk is set to open in Fall 2024 and will feature a 50,000-square-foot Target, a 25,000-square-foot Aldi supermarket, and new locations for Ross Dress for Less, Five Below, Burlington, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, and more.
The development will also include a public plaza with art murals, outdoor seating, a children’s playground, and a dog park, as well as a parking garage with nearly 1,000 spaces. Arquitectonica is the architect for the project.
