A Frida Kahlo–inspired speakeasy is set to debut in Wynwood. Diary, an intimate cocktail bar influenced by the emotional pages of Frida Kahlo’s personal diary, will open within the lobby of Frida Kahlo Wynwood Residences—the world’s first residential development inspired by the iconic artist.
The immersive concept arrives as PMG and LNDMRK Development continue progress on the 244-residence project rising in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. Designed by internationally renowned architect Carlos Ott in collaboration with CUBE3, the sculptural building will feature fully finished and furnished residences ranging from studios to three-bedroom homes. Select residences will also include rare deeded office suites tailored for creative work and remote living.
Located inside the building’s lobby, Diary is envisioned as a layered, immersive environment inspired by Kahlo’s introspective writing and expressive artistic language. Rather than serving as a literal recreation, the bar acts as an homage—channeling the raw emotion, symbolism, and storytelling that defined Kahlo’s work. The result is a moody, art-driven setting where residents and visitors can gather for craft cocktails within a space shaped by creativity and reflection.
One of the most dramatic design elements appears behind the bar, where a large-scale installation inspired by the tone and intensity of Kahlo’s diary entries will span the wall, capturing the unfiltered introspection that fueled many of her paintings. Suspended above the speakeasy, a sculptural metallic installation will serve as the room’s centerpiece, drawing attention to Kahlo’s enduring artistic influence.
Throughout the space, bold color accents, lush greenery, and layered textures echo Kahlo’s expressive visual language. Curves, waves, and striking lines combine with vibrant tones to create an environment that feels both intimate and theatrical, transforming the building’s lobby into an art-forward hospitality experience.
The design also embraces Miami’s indoor–outdoor lifestyle, incorporating natural light and greenery into the speakeasy’s interior. Plush seating and draped décor add warmth and seclusion, creating a social space that blends Wynwood’s creative energy with the intimacy of a hidden cocktail bar.
Beatriz Alvarado, Chief Creative Officer and Head of Global Trends at the Frida Kahlo Licensing Group, said the concept reflects the powerful emotional language that defined Kahlo’s legacy.
