Recoveco: South Miami’s Intimate Retreat with a Seasonal Twist
In the midst of Miami’s influx of Italian and sushi spots, South Miami’s Recoveco stands out with its intimate, seasonal approach to dining. Led by former Alter sous chefs Maria Teresa Gallina and Nicolas Martinez, alongside sommelier Shannon Gable, Recoveco offers a menu that balances familiar comforts with surprising twists.
The concise menu features around ten dishes that change with the seasons, focusing on local ingredients. Highlights include beef tongue with whipped sesame and chimichurri, the Pennsylvania golden chicken served with green mango sauce and chicken foot, and chilled royal red shrimp with white soy ponzu. Desserts continue the local theme, like the fig leaf and cucumber dessert made with fig leaves from Gallina’s parents’ yard and pineapple from Vero Beach.
The 1,300-square-foot space, with its open kitchen and minimalist decor, reflects Recoveco’s cozy, urban charm. True to its name, meaning “nook” or “cranny” in Spanish, the restaurant offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of US1, providing a fresh, local dining experience in a lively setting.
