On Tuesday, South Miami commissioners approved a $309 million redevelopment project aimed at transforming the City Hall municipal complex.
The project, called The Link at SoMi, will feature a mix of municipal offices, residential apartments, commercial space, a park, and the restoration of a historic building. Designed by Miami-based Corwil Architects and with RJ Heisenbottle Architects overseeing historic preservation, the development will include two 15-story towers with 670 residential units, 28,000 square feet of retail space, 880 parking spots, and a five-story, 70,000-square-foot municipal building to house City Hall, the Police Department, and the library. The centerpiece of the reconstructed Jean Willis Park will be the restored historic Sylvia Martin building.
The project will unfold in two phases:
- Phase one will involve building 335 apartments, 8,195 square feet of retail, a seven-story parking garage, and the new municipal building on the current site of Jean Willis Park and the Police Department parking lot.
- Phase two will begin once city staff relocate to the new facilities, allowing for the redevelopment of the old municipal building site.
