Miami-Dade County has received revised plans for Calle 8, a mixed-use skyscraper located at 190 Southwest 8th Street in Brickell. Developed by Millennium Developments of Brickell LLC and designed by BMA Architects, the project aims to rejuvenate a 0.92-acre site along Southwest 2nd Avenue. The updated proposal, submitted on January 17th, represents a significant departure from the initial plan, with the building now slated to soar to 65 stories or 856 feet in height.
The revised design of Calle 8 involves a reduction in the number of residential units to 458, including 225 studios, a slight decrease from the initially planned 464 units. The commercial component of the development presents two alternatives: a multi-level concert hall or a retail complex designed for a department store. Moreover, the project now incorporates 660 parking spaces, up from the previously proposed 467.
Calle 8's architectural design distinguishes itself with a distinctive triangular shape, deviating from the conventional rectilinear structures in Brickell's skyline. This design not only imparts a unique visual identity but also optimizes views and natural light for the building's interiors. The project envisions a substantial outdoor amenities area positioned halfway up the south side of the tower, complemented by additional indoor amenities distributed across three floors.
The Calle 8 project is in accordance with Miami-Dade County's goals for vertical mixed-use and transit-oriented developments. The innovative design of Calle 8, coupled with its strategic location near transit facilities and adherence to RTZ Metromover Subzone regulations, underscores its commitment to sustainable urban living and its role in shaping the evolving skyline of Brickell.
