The proposed Northeast Corridor commuter rail line received a significant boost as the Biden administration announced federal support for the project. The federal government plans to contribute $263.7 million out of the total budget of $538 million. Miami-Dade and FDOT have already committed to funding the remaining portion ($171 million from the county and $104 million from FDOT).

The project includes seven stations, starting at MiamiCentral and ending at Aventura. Broward County is separately planning to extend the line from Aventura to Fort Lauderdale, with a stop at FLL.

Additionally, a 521-space park-and-ride facility will be included in the project.

Trains will operate every 30 minutes during peak hours and every 60 minutes at off-peak times, providing service for 19 hours per day.

Service is expected to commence in December 2027.

Brightline's current train service between Miami and Aventura has been consistently sold out for afternoon rush hour times, indicating high demand.
